The Department of Medicine offers postgraduate students the opportunity to work with world leading scientists to expand knowledge and understanding across the whole spectrum of medical science from basic biology to clinical therapies.

MPhil courses

MPhil in Translational Medical Research

The MPhil in Translational Medical Research is a 1-year programme tailored for the next generation of scientists and practitioners in Translational Medicine. The course provides hands-on experience in state-of-the-art research complemented with a strong foundation of lectures, practical courses, literature reviews, and transferable skills workshops, all delivered by internationally recognized experts in the field.

Cambridge BHF 4-Year PhD Studentship Programme in Cardiovascular Research

This programme aims to train scientists in cross-disciplinary research related to cardiovascular disease, particularly those who can work effectively across traditional disciplines and lead collaborative research projects. The programme combines formal training in molecular and cellular biology, physiology of model organisms, human physiology, and human genetics and genomics.

Professional development

SMART course

The SMART course is a research methodology course designed for anaesthetists in training, organised by our Perioperative, Acute, Critical Care and Emergency Medicine (PACE) section. The course provides a complete overview of the research process, from setting up a project through gathering and analysing data, to presenting and publishing your results.

Cambridge Advance Online: Microbiome Research Design
