PhD in Immunity and Infection

The 4-year PhD in Immunity and Infection at CITIID offers an exceptional opportunity to explore the mechanisms driving immune and infectious diseases. Based within world-class research and clinical environment, students investigate fundamental basic molecular mechanisms of disease all the way through to pressing global health challenges—while benefiting from close collaboration between basic and clinician scientists.

The programme is designed to equip the next generation of researchers with an in-depth understanding of the basic biology underlying infection and immunity together with disease pathogenesis, the ability to apply innovative, cross-disciplinary approaches, and the tools to develop new therapeutic strategies.

National Institutes of Health Oxford/Cambridge PhD Programme

This programme is a 4-year PhD programme in collaboration with the NIH, whereby students spend two years at Cambridge and two years at the NIH.

The MPhil in Medical Science is a 1-year programme covering the whole spectrum of medical science from basic biology to clinical therapies.

MRC DTP iCASE Programme

The School of Clinical Medicine are offering 5 fully funded opportunities to combine academic research and training with industrial experience. Students studying under the iCASE programme will spend at least 3 months working with the industrial partner, experiencing two distinct research cultures and enabling better understanding and experience of future career opportunities within industry as well as in the University context.

Cambridge BHF 4-Year PhD Studentship Programme in Cardiovascular Research

This programme aims to train scientists in cross-disciplinary research related to cardiovascular disease, particularly those who can work effectively across traditional disciplines and lead collaborative research projects. The programme combines formal training in molecular and cellular biology, physiology of model organisms, human physiology, and human genetics and genomics.

MPhil in Translational Medical Research

The MPhil in Translational Medical Research is a 1-year programme tailored for the next generation of scientists and practitioners in Translational Medicine. The course provides hands-on experience in state-of-the-art research complemented with a strong foundation of lectures, practical courses, literature reviews, and transferable skills workshops, all delivered by internationally recognized experts in the field.

Designed to train the next generation of scientists and practitioners of discovery science and clinical research, this applied interdisciplinary course offers hands-on experience with world-leading researchers across specialise themes including immunology, infectious disease, pandemic preparedness, cardiovascular and respiratory science, and acute emergency care.

Professional development

SMART course

The SMART course is a research methodology course designed for anaesthetists in training, organised by our Perioperative, Acute, Critical Care and Emergency Medicine (PACE) section. The course provides a complete overview of the research process, from setting up a project through gathering and analysing data, to presenting and publishing your results.

Cambridge Advance Online: Microbiome Research Design

Learn to design microbiome studies, explore gut bacteria’s role in health and disease and uncover new research opportunities in this fast-moving field.
