Dr Nurulamin (Nuru) Noor, NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Gastroenterology from the Department of Medicine at the University of Cambridge and CUH, has been named the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) Young Gastroenterologist of the Year – for contributions to Clinical & Translational Science.
This prestigious award is designed to identify and promote talented trainee clinical scientists nationally in order to promote research and science in gastroenterology for the future.
Dr Noor’s award recognises his work on the PROFILE trial, which is the earliest “early treatment” clinical trial ever conducted for people with newly-diagnosed Crohn’s disease. The trial 'sets global standard' for treating this life-long condition, showing that early treatment straight after diagnosis can dramatically reduce flares, hospitalisations, urgent abdominal surgeries, and improve quality of life for patients.

PROFILE was led by Professor Miles Parkes, Director of the National Institute for Health and Care Research Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre at Addenbrooke’s. Sponsored by CUH and the University of Cambridge, PROFILE recruited almost 400 patients from 40 hospitals across the UK and was supported by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network.
