Role of sirtuins in vascular cells aging and atherosclerosis
Atherosclerosis is the underlying cause of coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction. Premature cell aging and apoptosis are known causes of cell depletion in the atherosclerotic plaque and detrimental to its stability. Understanding the factors that control smooth muscle cell proliferation and survival within vessels is crucial.
