Heart failure is a major cause of human mortality and morbidity. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of this disease has provided important leads that have now gone into the drug discovery pipeline (Kaye & Krum, Nat Rev Drug Discov 2007), but many mechanisms of the disease remain to be discovered.
