The advantages of a 4-year PhD include:
- Students get exposure to diverse areas of research by undertaking 3 short rotations (2 months duration each) prior to selecting their PhD project. This enables them to make an informed decision about which research area is of greatest interest to them and which laboratory provides the best working environment for them.
- Students have a greater understanding of cardiovascular regenerative medicine and can bring a broader perspective to their research project than is possible under the standard three year PhD.
- Students have 3.5 years to undertake their PhD project and this provides sufficient time to enable them to spend time in their joint supervisor’s laboratory in Cambridge or Oxford. This provides them with a unique insight into research at different universities.
