Our immune system protects us against infectious disease and cancer, but sometimes attacks our own healthy cells, causing autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis. Our group develops and applies statistical genomic methods to understand the genes, cells and pathways involved in the aetiology of autoimmune diseases and the relationships between them. Our goal is to further the understanding of these diseases in order to help prevent and treat them. We focus on the following specific questions:

What are the disease-causal genes?
