Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work on a new BHF funded project ‘Development of induced pluripotent stem cell models to elucidate mechanisms and develop treatments for pulmonary arterial hypertension’ awarded to Dr Amer Rana and Professor Nicholas Morrell.
The Rana and Morrell labs work closely together and between them have extensive experience in developmental and stem cell biology, disease modelling, genome editing, vascular biology and developing treatments for pulmonary arterial hypertension, providing an excellent multi-disciplinary environment for a young, dynamic and focused post-doctoral researcher.
These labs are also members of the Cambridge University Strategic Research Initiative (http://www.cardiovascular.cam.ac.uk/research/cardiosri) led by Professor Morrell and Professor Bennett, the Oxbridge BHF Centre for Regenerative Medicine (http://www.cardiovascular.cam.ac.uk/research/oxbridgecrm), the BHF Cambridge Centre for Cardiovascular Research Excellence (http://www.cardiovascular.cam.ac.uk/research/cambridgecre), led by Professor Morrell, and the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre Cardiovascular Theme (http://www.cardiovascular.cam.ac.uk/research/nihrbrccardio), also led by Professor Morrell, providing the successful candidate with further opportunity and support for career development.
Applicants must have a PhD in developmental or stem cell biology or related biomedical science. The successful candidate should have the following desirable skills and experience: tissue culture and maintenance of induced pluripotent cells (iPSCs), differentiation of iPSCs, cell phenotyping, strong communication and record keeping skills and a strong publication record.
In addition, desirable skills would include vasculogenesis and angiogenesis assays, experience working with viral constructs, generation of transgenic reporter cell lines, gene targeting and experience in other genome editing applications in cells. Working with iPSCs requires flexible working hours and habits, including working weekends if necessary.
